4 tips for a better bulk

Summer is coming to an end and we both know what that means for many of us… the bulk life is approaching. Winters are all about making gains, am I right? No but seriously, fall/winter typically mean bulking time, and since I know you may start your bulk soon, today I want to give you 4 tips for a better bulk.

These go in no particular order; these are just 4 things that I think you should keep in mind!

4 tips for a better bulk
  1. Control your surplus. It is gains season, not get fat season. A bigger caloric surplus doesn’t mean more gains. It will just make you gain weight but not necessarily muscle mass. So don’t jump on a 1000 caloric surplus expecting to get massive in a month cause the only thing you are going to get is just fat. Control your surplus and set it at a number that allows you to consistently and slowly build muscle mass and gain weight month after month but without getting just fat.

I usually recommend sticking to a 300-500 calories surplus max.

2. Play with your macros: you’re going to eat plenty of calories, and you are going to have plenty of macros to play with, so just do it. Come up with new healthy dishes, get creative and start cooking. Also you can make the healthy versions of what you would typically call a cheat meal (I hate that name): make healthy homemade pizza, burgers, bakery, etc there are thousands of recipes and combinations out there, and you can allow yourself to be more flexible with your food so do it and enjoy!

3. Mini cuts: a mini cut is literally what its own name implies: a very short (2-6 weeks) cutting phase. They are done in order to give you a break from your bulk, to get rid of some unwanted body fat and water weight and to bring your appetite back. So if you are planning on doing a long bulk (which I recommend if you truly want to maximize gains) you should strategically plan your mini cuts to make your bulk easier, to not have your body into the stress of a surplus for a very long period of time and to just help your physique look and feel better.

4. Don’t forget to drink water: Water is always a crucial component in your nutrition, and you should not overlook it when bulking. It will help you have better performance at the gym, retain less water and it will help and improve your digestion, and since you are going to eat plenty of food trust me, you want to have optimal digestion.
